What counts as the cost of a return?
Return shipping you pay, plus any restocking, inspection or refurbishing cost, minus any restocking fee you charge the customer. It does not include the refunded sale price itself, since that is revenue reversing rather than a new cost.
Should I charge a restocking fee?
A modest fee, 5 to 15% of the order, recovers some of your cost without discouraging genuine returns. Many sellers waive it for defective items and only apply it to change-of-mind returns.
How can I lower return costs?
